The U14 hurlers made the long trip to Oxfield worthwhile when recording their first victory of the year. At almost full strenght we needed a win and won deservedly.

We raced into the lead with a Seán Carrabine point from play and this was quickly followed by a Odhrán Quinn goal from distance. Micheál Cahill was playing his first game of hurling but you would not know it as he laid on Seán for another point from play. Brian Durkan had an effort saved and from the resulting 65, Elliot Beardshall diverted the sliotar to the net. A pass from Benny Foody put Seán C through and he finished to the top of the net. It was at this point that the home team got into the match and scored a good goal. We responded with a point but two goals from two close in frees brought the teams a lot closer as we hit halftime we lead 3-4 v 3-0.

As with the first half we got off to a good start with a goal from Seán Carrabine and this was quickly followed by a point from play from Elliot Beardshall after good work from Kenneth Flynn and Stephen Tuffy. Jason Tuffy was commanding around the half back line as he needed to be with James Boland first time clearances a big reliever at full back. Ruairí Gallagher was called on to make a fine save as the home side pressed. Odhrán Quinn at this time began to find space and was always available to collect the ball from defence. We finished the stronger and won 4-6 v 3-1.

Team: Ruairí Gallagher, Kenneth Flynn, James Boland, Benny Foody, Jason Tuffy, Seán Carrabine (2-4), Stephen Tuffy, Micheál Cahill, Odhrán Quinn (1-0), Brian Durkan, Elliot Beardshall(1-1), Dáire Barrins, Fergal Boland
